The award is a joint venture of the European Cultural Foundation in Amsterdam and the Riksbankens Jubileumsfond in Stockholm. Acknowledging the fact that cultural policy research needs to be encouraged within the academic and research environments, the two foundations launched in 2004 a pilot project of 3 years, that has been renewed for another three years (2007-2009). The award represents an important achievement for a young researcher while it also contributes to capacity-building within the discipline and the production on new knowledge. The CPRA has started to map and widen the circle of early career cultural policy researchers, since more than 75 of them took part in the annual competition. Some applicants were already well known, some names were new to the field. For all winners, the CPRA proved to be an opportunity to carry out a research project of their interest and to gain visibility and recognition on European level. Each year, young researchers have been invited to propose research projects which could inform policymaking and benefit practitioners active in the cultural field. A European Jury selects the best project in terms of its relevance to European debates and policymaking, as well as its methodology and the research achievements of the applicant. The CPRA has been given to the best project proposals which were throwing light on contemporary European cultural issues and offering possible policy solutions. Since 2007, particular attention is given to research projects that tackle issues of cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue, especially as regards their implications for cultural policy making on European, national, regional, or local level. |
