The current ENCATC Board for 2023-2025 was elected at the 2023 General Assembly which took place on 7 December 2023. We will share soon the specific roles of elected Board members.

PRESIDENT

Gerald Lidstone, Goldsmiths, University of London (United Kingdom)

Gerald is the Director of the Institute for Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship (ICCE) at Goldsmiths, University of London and founder of the MA in Arts Administration and Cultural Policy, now established for more than 25 years. Previously he was HOD of the Department of Theatre and Performance in Goldsmiths, having originally trained as a scenographic and lighting designer as well as a production manager with extensive design and touring experience in Eastern Europe and the USA. For the British Council and other agencies he has also taught Arts Management courses including, Arts Marketing, Arts Education, Fundraising, Copyright and Strategic Planning in over 20 countries. He has worked for over twelve years on behalf of The Ministry of Culture and Information in Viet Nam establishing Arts Management education in Hanoi University of Culture, funded by the Ford Foundation, well as being awarded the national medal for culture in Viet Nam. Gerald holds honorary doctorates from the University of Culture in Hanói, Viet Nam, and from the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Elena Borin, Link Campus University, Rome (Italy)

Elena is an Associate Professor at Link Campus University, and previously served as Director of the MSc in Arts and Cultural Management, and Coordinator of the Research team in Arts and Cultural Management at the Burgundy School of Business (France). A recipient of the ENCATC Research Award in 2016 and the IUSS Award in 2017, she has been a Board Member of ENCATC since 2021. Elena is actively involved in various international committees, including the Steering Committee of the International University Network Routes towards Sustainability and the Scientific Committee of the academic network INSIDE Modern Heritage. She serves as Interim Editor-in-Chief of the EJCMP - European Journal of Cultural Policy and Management. Elena has over 50 scientific publications and is a sought-after speaker at international conferences.

Leticia Labaronne, ZHAW School of Management and Law Center for Arts Management (Switzerland)

With an extensive international career in performing arts, Leticia joined the Center for Arts Management at ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences in 2009. Hailing from Argentina, she holds a BA in International Studies (UK), an MSc in Public and Nonprofit Management (Switzerland), and a PhD in Cultural Management (Germany). Serving as Director of the Executive Master of Arts Management since 2016 and appointed Head of the Center of Arts Management at ZHAW in 2019, Leticia oversees a team of researchers and collaborates with scholars and practitioners on research projects and executive education. Recently appointed Professor for Arts Management with full tenure, her expertise encompasses various aspects of arts and cultural organization management, including financing, funding strategies, performance measurement, evaluation, and cultural policy. Leticia is a Board Member of ENCATC since 2021.

Douglas DeNatale, Boston University (USA)

Douglas has forged a diverse career in cultural management across the United States, spanning the public and non-profit sectors. Holding an M.A. from the University of North Carolina and a Ph.D. in Folklore and Folklife from the University of Pennsylvania, his dissertation explored vernacular culture's role in labor relations within a southern US textile mill village. As Director of Research and Technology at the New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA) from 1994 to 2000, he pioneered early creative economy research in the U.S. Subsequently, as Deputy Director of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Douglas transitioned to launching a successful consulting practice in arts research. Joining Boston University’s Arts Administration Program in 2014, he became Program Director in 2019. His recent focus centers on researching the post-pandemic career outcomes of cultural managers in the Boston region.

Matina Magkou, Université Côte d'Azur (France)

Matina is an Associated Researcher at the SIC.Lab Méditerranée of the University Côte d’Azur in France. She holds a PhD in Leisure, Communication and Culture from the University of Deusto. Her tesis focused on the evaluation of international cultural cooperation projects, with a focus on the EuroArab region. Her expertise lies on creative spaces, cultural and creative industries, cultural relations and cultural policies. She is currently investigating collective responses from creative professionals in regard to the challenges posed by AI. In the past Matina has worked for festivals, theater productions and large-scale events such as the Olympic Games Athens 2004, the European Capital of Culture Patras 2006 and the International Expo Zaragoza 2008. She has also worked for public institutions such as the European Parliament, the Greek Ministry of Education and the Municipality of Athens.

Ana Zuvela, IRMO - Institute for Development and International Relations (Croatia)

Ana is a Research Assistant at IRMO in Zagreb, Croatia. Her work integrates academic research with applied analyses in the fields of culture, cultural policy, cultural planning, and the role of culture in broader social and political contexts. Graduating from the University of Central England as a concert pianist, Ana pursued MA studies in cultural policy and arts management at the University College Dublin. She earned her PhD at the University of Zadar, focusing on decentralization and participatory governance practices in Croatia. Ana's professional journey involves numerous research projects and collaborations with international, national, and local entities, including the European Parliament, UN, UNESCO, Foundation Kultura nova, Croatian Ministry of Culture and Media, and various local administrations in Croatia and abroad.

Toni-Matti Karjalainen, Sibelius Academy, University of the Arts Helsinki (Finland) 

Toni-Matti is Professor of Arts Management and Head of the MuTri Doctoral School and Research Unit at Sibelius Academy, University of the Arts Helsinki, and Adjunct Professor (Docent) of Music Management and Culture Export at Aalto University in Espoo, Finland. Holding a Doctor of Arts degree in Art and Design and an M.Sc. in Economics, he has authored over 100 academic publications spanning design, brand management, and popular music. With a rich background as an Academy Research Fellow and Research Director at Aalto University, he has managed diverse research projects across consumer products, design, technology, and cultural domains. Toni-Matti boasts a strong international presence, having served as a visiting professor, speaker, and researcher in the Nordic countries, the Baltics, Europe, the United States, Japan, and South Korea for almost two decades.
