Audrey Wong

Audrey Wong is Head, School of Creative Industries and Programme Leader of the MA Arts and Cultural Leadership programme at LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore. She is a cultural policy expert, civil society advocate and the first Nominated Member of Parliament for the Arts in Singapore.

 Prior to joining LASALLE in 2010, Audrey was the artistic co-director of The Substation, an independent arts centre in Singapore, from 2000 till early 2010. She was the first woman to be appointed to this role in the arts centre. With co-director Lee Weng Choy, she launched The Substation’s Associate Artists programme in 2003 to support local artists in sustaining their practice. She also curated and organized festivals, exhibitions, conferences and artists’ exchanges. In the 1990s, Audrey launched and was the first programmer of The Substation’s Moving Images film programme – Singapore’s first year-round film programme supporting local filmmakers.

As an educator, Audrey was also previously an adjunct lecturer in the Theatre Studies programme at National University of Singapore (2001 – 2003) and the MA Arts and Cultural Management programme at LASALLE (2006 – 2009). She has led the BA (Hons) Arts Management programme, and MA Arts and Cultural Leadership programme where students are prepared to be reflective, critical and innovative arts managers.

 In 2009, she was nominated by the arts community in Singapore and appointed as a Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP) in Singapore’s Parliament in July 2009. She has served and continues to serve on various institutional boards and committees including with the Singapore Art Museum, National Arts Council and Singapore International Foundation. She was on the Arts and Culture Strategic Review Committee (2010 – 2012) and is currently a board member of Nine Years Theatre. She continues to research, write, and present on arts management and policy issues at various local and international fora.
