Yoko Kawamura

Professor, Seikei University, Japan

Yoko Kawamura is Professor of International Relations at the Department of Cross-Cultural Studies, Faculty of Humanities, Seikei University.  She studies extensively on international cultural relations and cultural policy, and presently serves as Executive Board Member at the Japan Society for Intercultural Studies and the Japan Association for Cultural Policy Research.  Her Essay, "The Sarrazin Debate in Germany: Multidimensional Diversity and International Dialogue”, was given Kenichiro Hirano Research Award by the Japan Society for Intercultural Studies in 2012.  She has issued many publications, including her co-edited book Studies on the History of International Cultural Relations, University of Tokyo Press, 2013, and co-authored book Culture of Remembrance in Germany and Europe since 1945, Bensei Shuppan Publishers, 2016 (in Japanese).  Publications in English include “'Germany in Europe', 'Japan and Asia': National Commitments to Cultural Relations in Regional Frameworks" in Jessica C.E. Gienow-Hecht and Mark Donfried (eds.), Searching for a Cultural Diplomacy, Berghahn Books, 2010 (co-authored with Maki Aoki-Okabe and Toichi Makita), and “Experts in Cultural Policy-Making in Japan: Two Expert Networks and the Making of the Basic Act on the Promotion of Culture and the Arts (BAPCA)” in Bulletin of the Faculty of Humanities, Seikei University, March 2018.
