Mike Parnwell is Emeritus Professor of South-East Asian Development at the University of Leeds. His research has focused on development at the grassroots level in several South-East and East Asian countries (Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam and China). He is co-editor of a series of books on tourism development in South-East Asia, including the path-setting Tourism in South-East Asia (Routledge, 1993; 2018), as well as the author of several articles on heritage management, intangible cultural heritage and sustainable tourism. He is currently teaching research methods for the MA in Luxury Brand Management at Goldsmiths, University of London, and is writing a book on the same subject for Routledge (2022). In retirement, his main interest is wildlife photography.
