2nd ENCATC International Study Tour

"Understanding Cultural Cooperation between China and Europe"

ENCATC, the leading European network on arts and cultural management and policy education, organised its 2nd ENCATC International Study Tour "Understanding Cultural Cooperation between China and Europe" in Shanghai, China from 9-12 April 2014.

Researchers, academics, cultural managers, artists, policy makers, and students were invited to attend the International Study Tour in Shanghai, one of Asia’s fastest-growing cities with an innovative and expanding art scene. The Tour was enhanced by lectures and study visits that revealed the inner workings of this vibrant city and its rich cultural offer.

Furthermore, this was a unique opportunity to learn and exchange with colleagues from Asia and Europe on cultural diplomacy, innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship; gain a better understanding of culture’s role in Chinese society; as well as develop collaborations and ties with universities, art organisations and cultural companies based in Shanghai. Much more than just theatre and museum visits, this tour was filled with explorations into a variety of innovative institutions that pushed audiences to expand their definitions of how art and culture are defined, created, funded, and presented.

The ENCATC International Study Tour is one of many activities organised in the framework of ENCATC’s mobility initiative, the Asia Region Education Exchange (AREE) and is supported by the programme ASEF Creative Networks of the Asia Europe Foundation (ASEF). This project was selected for support from over 50 proposals submitted through a competitive call in 2013.
