Mariachiara Esposito

Seconded National Expert, European Commission

With a background in European policies and international relations at the University of Bologna and many years of work experience at the intersection between humanities research and cultural policies, Mariachiara Esposito works as Seconded National Expert at the European Commission, DG EAC, within the Cultural Policy Unit, on cultural heritage innovation and sustainable development. Her expertise range from science advice to policy making in the field of culture, cultural heritage and research to European projects with a regional dimension on cultural governance, intercultural dialogue and remembrance policies, culture led development, innovation and territorial regeneration.

Previously she has worked for the regional government of Tuscany at European level, as well as for the international science policy Association Science Europe and for the European Economic and Social Committee.

In her role at DG EAC she leads the Open Method of Coordination Group of Member States’ Experts on the topic of the Cultural Dimension of Sustainable Development as well the work on the enhancement of culture and cultural heritage in R&I policies in connection with Horizon Europe’s new Cluster “Culture, Creativity and Inclusive Society”.
